HPL Contract, Inc.

HPL Contract, Inc. is a manufacturer of office furniture, focusing on using environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes. 

The logo and identity system evolved over the course of months of discussions, analysis, and iteration. A clean, slab-stroke modular feel to the letter forms, especially the “h”, is suggestive of modern furniture.

Sapience Network

The essence of the curve is reminiscent of the “sweet spot” of a design cycle: an “S” curve. The second sweep is the next "S" curve of a product’s life cycle.

In addition to the new identity, a new website and other collateral was produced, including digital stationary templates and branded master PowerPoint templates for consistency of brand during presentations.

Seneca Builders, Inc.

Seneca Builders is a high-end building contractor on the mid-peninsula. Their projects are diverse, ranging from complex remodels to custom new home construction. While it isn't a requirement for taking on a project, one of their tenets is to build with 'green' materials whenever appropriate and possible. In addition, their approach to projects is one of community and collaboration between client and builder.

Valence Point

Valence Point is a startup software company whose mission is to provide a collaborative web-based project workgroup tool. As part of the vocamulary in defining the product, project members belong to an 'orbit', similar to electrons, or planets. This became the seed for my inspiration of the graphic.

Wickstrom Molding

The logo for Wickstrom Molding, Inc. was designed around the idea of molten liquid pouring into a mold. The shape of the W and M letter forms were designed to suggest positive and negative  interlocking shapes: molds. Most of Wickstrom's business is focused in the medical products industry, creating molds for injection molding of prototype or short-run manufacture parts.

This logo is the new face of Stage 13, a film/video and animation rental stage in Portland, OR.

Protean Strategy

Pixelbrew Studios created the logo and identity for Protean Strategy, a business strategy research and analysis consultancy. Their central theme is collecting data and building stratigic plans from the analysis; seeing the whole from the parts, not focusing only on individual elements.

Redwood City Education Foundation (RCEF)

The RCEF appraoched me to craft a new identity. This organization is focused on fundraising for enrichment programs in K-8 education, such as music, arts and physical education. A logo mark and two logotypes were needed: an acronymn 'rcef' form, and the full organization title. Most often the 'rcef' form is used where the brand has become known, in situations with limited brand recognition the full-text version is used.

To be effective in crafting an identity--the core of a brand--requires delving into the "psyche" of the client company. What values are espoused? What should be communicated to the end customer? The rest is easy....
