WeatherBug Lite – OS X App

About This Project

WeatherBug® by xAd, Inc., is a premier free weather applications for both iOS and android phones and tablets. WeatherBug® provides local weather forecasts, radar maps, and severe storm alerts, powered by the largest professional weather network in the world. WeatherBug® delivers the fastest alerts and the best real-time forecasts to over 10+ million users on iOS & android phones, tablets, and desktop platforms.

This version of WeatherBug® is a “Light” version of our mobile application for the Macintosh desktop. This lightweight app provides a quick weather forecast information in the system menubar. When launched by user, the popup app shows current weather conditions including a temperature graph and radar view. One feature of this application is the ability for users to sync saved locations across multiple devices and platforms. The location name opens a location list (similar to the mobile app to build upon common user behaviors) with temperature and current conditions icons–a weather “snapshot” of places important to the user. Individual sections of the app, such as radar and forecast, link directly to the weatherbug.com website for a richer experience.

As Senior UX Designer I worked directly with product manager to define the feature set, design the interaction flow and the UI itself. Earlier designs of this application had a much richer feature set and far granular weather data. We decided a scaled-down application would better support our suite of WeatherBug® products.

I worked directly with engineering and OS X developers to create a product that functions as required, provided mocks, prototypes, specification documentation and assets. I worked with QA to define user stories and resolve interaction issues.
